Hello friends! It has been a action packed few weeks for me and I have slacked on posting new content on here and I am sorry, but I am finishing up school and will hopefully be more active. Today I wanted to discuss a struggle I have and I believe many other Americans have, going plastic free. One of the biggest things I try to reduce my consumption of is plastic. Plastic takes over 1000 years to decompose and with how much plastic we consume, it is amazing how we aren't over run by landfills. Every time I go shopping, I buy a lot of produce. I am in college and I pretty much am busy 7 days a week so it is hard to go to farmer's markets because they don't fit my current schedule so I go to grocery stores. Between produce being put in plastic bags or having to put certain items in plastic bags like fresh broccoli or other items it is hard to avoid plastic. I know there are fabric produce bags you can buy, but I am currently a poor college student and those just aren't in my budget at this time. I tend to beat myself up when I can't find non-plastic alternatives and have to bring home plastic, especially when it comes to cosmetics. But the truth is, ever little step we make, makes a difference. As you venture down the path of sustainable living, know it is okay to not be perfect. It is so hard especially in America, where we use plastic for literally everything including food, pet items and beauty products, to go plastic free. But by being more aware of what you buy and buying alternative products when you can is truly making a difference! So keep it up! Love Always, Mikala
