Christmas 2017
Merry Christmas!!!!
Instead of posting my normal sustainability post I decided to share about my family and our holiday festivities! We decided to open presents yesterday which was so much fun. I personally hate waiting. Ultimately it was a really good Christmas gift wise.

This year is super special though. This is my sweet dog Axel's first Christmas with us. I adopted Axel in March at the age of 3. He has brought so much joy to my life and I am super excited to have gotten to spend Christmas with him this year. I even got his a little snowman dog treat for Christmas since he doesn't really do the whole playing with toys thing.

During this time of year I am always reminded of how blessed I am and it makes me very thankful for all the wonderful people I surrounded by. I have been blessed with wonderful friends and amazing family.  Though sometimes we face difficult times, I always enjoy this time of year because it brings reflection of all the good we do have.

But at the same time my heart breaks for those who are hurting during this time of year. I tend to focus of this negative part so much more than the positive. I have always been very blessed, but I know others struggle. It makes me sad, but Christmas is more than just the presents under the tree. It's about family and love and joy. Yeah sure gifts are a nice touch, but being surrounded by the people who bring joy to your life is truly the best part of Christmas.

I decided to come home and spend time with my family and it has been amazing. I love being able to laugh with my mom and brother. I do not get to do that much since I am away at school and it makes me happy to be with them.  I also really enjoy our traditional Christmas breakfast which is a yummy casserole we make for Christmas morning.

The holiday season isn't always easy, I know we have some scars that make it hard, but at the same time we have so much to be grateful for and we get to spend it with each other. Which is the best part! I know some times Christmas just sucks, but if you can try to find the positive things you still have during the holiday it makes it better, trust me.

I hope your Christmas is also filled with joy and those you love. Let me know in the comments about any Christmas/holiday traditions you have.
Love Always,
Mikala

Aw, your new dog is adorable! Love his Santa photo! :-) Yes, the holidays can be hard and it's important to include those who may be having a hard time with it...esp. to include them with low-key, no expectation gatherings. Gathering around a yummy meal is always appreciated! :-)

Axel looks almost exactly like my daughter's dog. I got to take care of him while she was on a trip this Christmas to Thailand. What a sweetie!

I love this! I am so glad you got to enjoy the holidays with your family but realize you are very fortunate! I also think about the less fortunate during holidays more often than normal because we have so much to be grateful for! I just make sure I focus on being the light in someone's day each and every day because maybe you can inspire them to be light for someone else as well. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
