Why do I Read?

Once upon a time, in a small third grade classroom there sat a awkward curly haired  eight year old with zero passion to read.  Her teacher had a miniature library in her classroom that she actively required her students to use.  Reading time was a daily activity that the young girl was not thrilled about. Then she started reading a series of books that gave her very active  imagination an outlet and her fire for reading began.

Fast forward about five years and that same girl is now sitting in her freshman pre AP English class with a teacher who is passionate about literature. That teacher would end up not only being her teacher but then become her dual credit professor for her junior and senior year, but also igniting a passion for literature in the young girl. This passion has stayed with the girl through high school and into college. In fact, as a young adult fresh out of college finding herself, she still feels joy from reading and writing. She even started her own blog as an outlet.

If you haven’t figured out who the young girl is by now,  that young girl is me, well young woman. Over the past few years, I have changed as a person, but my love for writing and literature has remained. Both of those aspects have inspired the growth of this site and the Sass and Curls brand. With that being said welcome to Book Corner! This will be the section of my blog where I share my current reads and reviews of books I have read!

Right now my current reading list is Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert and Dare to Lead by Brene Brown. I feel like the universe is telling me something with both of these books. Both are covering fear and courage. I didn’t realize these would be topics in both book, but I needed to read these books! I can’t wait to share my reviews of these books but for now I will leave you with this note: courage and fear go together, you can’t have courage without some fear.

Love Always,
Mikala
